Beauty Jobs- The perfect Lipstick Shades for Fall

Monday, October 23rd, 2017

Beauty Nine to Five - Beauty Jobs in Canada

Fall is finally here, which means it’s time to take out your sweaters to enjoy the cool temperatures while sipping a PSL at a local coffee shop while wearing your favourite shade of lipstick. But hold on, like your wardrobe, your lipstick shade needs a shift during fall. There’s nothing wrong with the bright pink and oranges that you wore all summer, but this season is asking for warmer tones. Read on to learn about the best cold weather lipstick shades to get your lips on point with your outfit.

Burgundy Tones
This dark red features a subtle shine and is the perfect darker hue for those who don’t really like wearing classic red. A burgundy lip looks great with a fine cat eye or a light smoky eye. Try this MAC lipstick in the colour ‘Diva’, just remember to use a lip pencil to outline your lips as it helps prevent the colour from bleeding or feathering.

Berry Tones
If you love bright hues, then this shade is for you. Berry is a darker variation of red with a touch of purple. This hue looks sophisticated and bold on any skin tone and shows that you’re ready to take on fall.
Try this Giorgio Armani Lip Magnet Liquid Lipstick in the shade ‘Attitude’ and you’ll be ready for your fall photo ops.

Brown Tones
If you’re a nude lipstick kind of girl, the browns will steal your heart. For fall, the darker the better and this one looks best on medium to dark skin tones. It’s a pretty shade that works perfectly for an afternoon with friends in a coffee shop to a night on the town. Colorpop has this incredible satin liquid lipstick in the colour ‘Stud’ that is easy to apply anywhere.

Nude Tones
If you’re the kind of person that prefers to play it safe with your makeup year round, the nudes hues have got you covered. This Bare Minerals liquid lipstick in the colour ‘Hemp’ is a universal and comfortable shade that goes with any kind of look for all types of skin tones.

Beauty Jobs – Long Lasting Lip Products for Work

To complete an office makeup look, it is very important to use a lip product that is super long lasting. There is not a lot of time for touch ups, so it is crucial for you to find a product that is able to stay on your lips all day long. Often, after finishing a meal, your lipstick fades or gets blotchy. That is why it is better to use a lip product that effectively stains your lips or has a very long lasting power. From my experience, I find that liquid lipsticks and lip stains last the longest. There are many brands out there that carry excellent lip products that are very long lasting. Many have great colour variety and pigmentation!

Below are some of my personal favourites!

 1 [528914]

1. Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick, $24, available at Sephora

This product does not get raved reviews for nothing. It is extremely long lasting, has great pigmentation and comes in a wide variety of colours to choose from. A little bit goes a long way and it dries to a smooth, matte finish.

2 [528915]

2. Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain, $18, available at Sephora

This is an excellent dupe of the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick. It has a very similar formula with a lower price point. It glides onto the lips and lasts all day long. It is slightly less matte compared to the Kat Von D but delivers equal amounts of pigmentation!

3 [528916]

3. Yves Saint Laurent Vernis A Levres Glossy Stain, $38, available at Sephora

If you prefer a more glossy finish, this product is definitely for you. It not only gives a glossy moisturized look, but it is also very long wearing. It stains your lips and gives tons of shine!

4 [528913]

4. Benefit Cosmetics Benetint Cheek & Lip Stain, $39, available at Sephora

This product can act as a lip or cheek stain. This universal red shade is a classic cult favourite from Benefit and for good reasons! It is long lasting, natural looking and gives a slight sheen to the lips.

Cosmetician Jobs – No More Reapplying Your Lipstick At Work

Wednesday, June 17th, 2015

beauty-nine-to-five- beauty jobs

A good lipstick can complete any look but who has time to reapply while they’re at work? Here are some long lasting products that’ll give you a lasting pout – reapplying will hardly be needed.

In order to have a long lasting lip, you should try…

MAC

A Matte Lipstick

MAC Matte Lipstick in Brave Red, $19 CAD, Mac

A matte lipstick has more of a dry texture and it gives one a full coverage. Our pick is MAC’s matte lipstick in Brave Red. It’s a great universal colour for all skin tones and glides on beautifully upon application. Not to mention it smells great!

sephora

A Liquid Lipstick

Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain in 01 Always Red, $16 CAD, Sephora

A liquid lipstick may look like a gloss but it’s really not. Using a gloss applicator, one easily glides on the liquid lipstick. When it dries, it’s matte. Try the Sephora Cream Lip Stain in, 01 Always Red, for a smudge proof, sophisticated look.  This gives double the coverage, it’s more matte and it has an insane longevity.

YSL

A Glossy Lip Stain

YSL Glossy Stain in 6 Camel Croisiere, $38 CAD, Sephora

If you’re looking for something that’s comfortable to wear, lasts just as long put still has a shine try YSL’s Glossy Lip Stain. There really is nothing like it. The coverage is pretty creamy but not too sheer. The gloss has a unique applicator that hugs your lips beautifully and the formula is not sticky!

Beauty Jobs – 5 Lip Colours You Need To Wear

Wednesday, March 25th, 2015

beauty-nine-to-five - beauty jobs

No matter nudes, reds, corals, pinks or plums, every girl should own at least one shade of each that compliments their complexion. A pop of colour on the lips can make a world of a difference! They can function as a fashion accessory and help to bring more life back into your lips. Personally, I always keep a big stash of lip products in various colours to keep a variety to choose from.

Here is my list of the top 5 lip colours every girl should own in their makeup bag:

(Each comes with a splurge and save option!)

12

Red

This colour is an absolute classic. Every girl should rock a red lip! Once worn, it exudes a great sense of confidence and class. It is such a versatile colour and works for all skin tones!

• M.A.C Lipstick in Ruby Woo, $19.00, available at M.A.C Cosmetics

• Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Striking, $8.96, available at Walmart

34

Nude

This is the go-to lip colour for those who love dark makeup. A nude lip colour looks extremely natural and is a good way to tone down heavy eye makeup. It is also great for those that would like to simply enhance their natural lip colour.

• NARS Lipstick in Honolulu Honey, $32.00, available at Sephora

• Revlon Colorburst Lacquer Balm in Ingenue, $8.96, available at Walmart

56

Coral/Orange

Always opting for reds and pinks? Why not try out a shade of orange? This lip colour is an excellent choice for the spring and summer seasons! When worn, it gives off a youthful and bright look. This colour is excellent for bright lip lovers!

• NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Timanfaya, $31.00, available at Sephora

• NYX Extra Creamy Round Lipstick in Peach Bellini, $4.00

78

Pink

This is probably the most common lip colour in every girl’s makeup bag. Pink is very easy to wear and is undoubtedly a very feminine shade. When sheer, it can enhance your natural lip colour by giving it a soft pink tint. However, pinks can also be a strong bright lip colour when worn opaque!

• YSL Rouge Volupte-Silky Sensual Radiant Lipstick SPF 15 in 29 Opera Rose, $39.00, available at Sephora

• Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Sweetheart, $8.96, available at Walmart

910

Plum

Bring out the vampy-ness in your soul by wearing a shade of plum! This colour is the least common out of the bunch. However, it is a great option if you are looking to create a refined polish look! Wine-coloured shades are very rich and give off a mysterious vibe.

• Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Bauhau5, $24.00, available at Sephora

• NYX Matte Lipstick in Aria, $6.00

Beauty Jobs – Beauty New Year’s Resolutions

Monday, January 5th, 2015

beauty-nine-to-fiveScreen Shot 2014-12-28 at 12.37.22 PM

What are your New Year’s resolutions for 2015? When it comes to beauty, anything goes. Whether you’re looking to amp up your skincare routine or whether you’re looking to invest in better quality products… the sky is the limit! Here are five beauty New Year’s Resolution suggestions that may inspire you for this upcoming year!

1. Be more creative with your beauty routine: Do you normally go for neutral make-up shades? Why not try a bold eyeshadow or lipstick. Do you wear your hair the same day-after-day? Try switching it up! In 2015, try and be more creative with your beauty routine once a week (or month)!

NARS Semi Matte Lipstick – Schiap, $26, available at Net-a-porter

2. Focus on skincare: There’s no time like the present to solidify your daily beauty routine. In 2015, invest in skin-saving products like a serum, eye cream and of course, SPF!

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial moisturizer SPF 30, $44 for 125ml, available at Hudson’s Bay

3. Hydration, hydration, hydration: Invest in hydrating products like creams, masks and serums and more importantly, drink water! Aim for eight glasses of H20 a day to keep a clear and glowing complexion.

Kocostar Hair Therapy Deep Conditioning Steam Hair Wrap, $8.49, available at Nordstrom

4. Invest in quality beauty products: Slowly but surely make it a goal to invest in better quality products. Sure, you will need to spend a bit more money, but these products will look better, last longer and ultimately be better for your skin, hair and nails.

Aveda Smooth Infusion styling cream, $31.50, available at Aveda

5. Au natural look: The saying ‘less is more’ works for many things in life, including your make-up! If you tend to wear lots of make-up, try giving your skin a break every once in a while, and instead swipe on some mascara and lipstick. Doing this will clear up your skin, in more ways than one!

If you’re looking for the perfect summer date night lipstick, it’s a bright eye-catching orange, for sure.  To keep the lipstick looking fresh and modern without looking like you spend hours perfecting your makeup, keep your skin looking fresh and luminous with just a tinted moisturizer and a little bit of highlighter. For eyes, use one light shimmery colour over your entire lid and add a couple coats of mascara, the simple eye ensures that all of the attention will be on your gorgeous lipstick hue. Canadian girl Hannah Simone rocks the look perfectly. She’s  wearing Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil in Bang ($20, available at Sephora.) with the matching Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Bang ($22, available at Sephora.) as well.

Beauty Jobs – Vivid Lips

Tuesday, September 24th, 2013

Inspiration Image Vivid Lipstick

Bold, vivacious lips have been oh-so-hot this year, everywhere from funky fuchsia to vixen red. The trick to a punchy pout is getting that vibrant hue to stay true all day long, which can be challenging for us Beauty Nine To Five’rs. But fret not – these helpful tips will help keep lipstick vivid like it’s meant to. Get ready to pucker up!

Step 1 Collage

For flaky lips, buff them with a damp washcloth or a couple drops of Visine on a cotton swab to take off bits of dead skin.

Glide on a solid, nourishing lip balm. After giving it a minute to sink in, blow away residue with a tissue. We recommend: Marc Jacobs Beauty Lip lock Moisture Balm, $24 available at Sephora.

Choose your shade: bold orange like Tangerine looks stellar on medium and dark complexions; hot pink is striking on fair skin; tomato red flatters everyone, making that red lip attainable for all. We recommend: MAC Lipstick in Tangerine Dream, $18 available at MAC or The Bay; Joe Fresh Matte Lipstick in Fuchsia, $6 available at Joe Fresh or Real Canadian Superstore; Kat Von D Painted Love Lipstick in Stiletto, $19 available at Sephora.

For the most precise application, apply lipstick with a concealer brush (we recommend: Bobbi Brown Concealer Brush, $26 available at Sephora or Holt Renfrew) – because they are larger than lip brushes, they coat lips more evenly. Trace the lip line first, then fill in the center. Clean up any mistakes with a cotton swab dipped in oil-free makeup remover.

Finish off by separating a tissue to one ply and gently press against your lips. This will blot away the oils in lipstick than can cause fading without removing or smudging the colour. Touch up lipstick throughout the day just on the center of the lips. Et voilà!

Montreal Beauty Jobs – Pretty in Pastel

Monday, June 10th, 2013

Pastel and spring go together like peas and carrots. And although splashes of colour have popped up on the runway in recent years, pastel fashion is always a springtime staple. (inspirational images courtesy of The Model Stage blog.) This season, however, these subdued hues have gone beyond attire and become the latest colour palette in makeup. Dusted on eyes, painted on lips, swiped onto nails – however you play it, pastels are oh-so-pretty – here’s how to get the look:

Eyes: For an intense dose of colour, go for a cream shadow or liner. Smudge a punchy mint green cream shadow onto lids from your lashes to brow bone or line eyes with a pretty lilac for a more defined eye look. We recommend: Illamasqua Cream Pigment in Bedaub, $26 available at Sephora; Sephora Collection Jumbo Liner 12hr Wear Waterproof in #31 Lilac Shimmer.

Lips: Cotton candy pink or vivid peach are no-brainer picks. Since sheer pastels tend to blend into lips, be sure to layer, layer, layer! We recommend: Joe Fresh Lip Gloss in Sugar Plum, $8 available at Joe Fresh; NARS Lipstick in Barberella, $26 available at Sephora.

Cheeks: A dose of pastel pink or coral powder blush add a fresh pop of colour. Apply to the apples of the cheeks and blend to create a soft glow. We recommend: Bobbi Brown Blush in Pale Pink, $25 available at Sephora or Holt Renfrew; bareMinerals Blush in Vintage Peach, $19 available at Sephora.

Nails: A plethora of pastel hues are at your fingertips – shimmery finishes can make these colours feel a tad juvenile, so stick with a matte formula. We recommend: Joe Fresh Nail Polish in Buttercup, $4 available at Joe Fresh; CoverGirl Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss in Lav-endure, $5.99 available at Shoppers Drug Mart; Ciaté Paint Pots Nail Polish in Ferris Wheel, $15 available at Sephora.

Makeup Artist Jobs – 2 Summer Date Beauty Ideas

Wednesday, May 8th, 2013

If Mr. Perfect decides to appear this summer, we’ve got you covered with two beauty ideas for a day and night date. Take a cue from Isla Fisher for a more traditional dinner date. Doing something spontaneous and fun? Nina Dobrev’s high ponytail is perfect if you’re trying to achieve something cute and casual, the best part is it takes minimal prep time. If you don’t have a date, don’t sweat it, test out either of these looks on a night out with the girls and we’re sure that you’ll have one by the end of the night.

The Classic Dinner Date

Isla Fisher’s Great Gatsby premiere hair and makeup is the perfect combination of sexy and sophisticated. The cat-winged liner and dewy skin was a classic choice but the pop of the pinky-red lip was what made this beauty look the perfect summer date night beauty idea. L’Oreal’s Colour Intense lipstick in Burning Rose is almost an exact match for Isla’s lip colour and her voluminous waves can be achieved by using the largest barrel in Amika’s Interchangeable Barrel Curling Wand.

Casual and Fun

We’re still girls, just because we may be going to a baseball game or perhaps be spending a day at the beach we still want to look cute. Nina Dobrev’s high pony is perfect for a casual day date, not only is it a great way to beat the heat during the hot summer months but it also takes less than 2 minutes to create! Immediately after washing your hair with a volumizing shampoo, scrunch in some Bumble & Bumble Thickening Full Form Mousse for the illusion of a full pony even if your hair type is more on the thin and fine side, then sweep your hair up right at the crown and you’re good to go, it really is as easy as that!
