Beauty Jobs – The 5 Hair Products You Need This Summer

Thursday, July 26th, 2018

We all love a good hair day, especially during the summer where they can be hard to come by thanks to frizzy hair and styles that just won’t stay thanks to humidity and sweating. But summer also brings some benefits to the table, like not having to blowdry your hair all the time and turning to easier updos like ponytails and braids to beat the heat. Summertime also brings out festival and day-party season where mermaid hair vibes strive! No matter how you choose to wear your hair this summer using the right products can really make or break a good hair day, so here are our top 5 must-have products for the season!

Nioxin Instant Fullness Dry Shampoo
The one thing we love about summer, especially living in Canada, is spending days exploring our cities, getting outdoors and living every warm day like it’s our last. But being on the go in the heat means some sweating, usually resulting in our hair needing a wash way more often than the other three seasons. This Nioxin dry shampoo not only soaks up oils giving you an extra day worth out of your hair but also gives it new life with lots of fullness. It also has a cooling, refreshing mint scent (like most of Nioxin’s products are known for) making it perfect to bring with you up at the cottage or camping instead of those other heavily perfumed dry shampoos.

Marc Anthony Hair Care Strengthening Grow Long Volumizing Texture Spray
Humidity and heat can make some hair types a little limp and lack life during the summer and sometimes although we’d rather our hair go au natural, we want a little “oumf” to it. This Marc Anthony texture spray is the perfect product to give hair some body without leaving it sticky or hard. We also swear by this product to help add texture to beach waves and give them that messy chic vibe instantly.

IGK Preparty Hair Strobing Glitter Spray
Looking for something quick and easy or need the perfect finishing touch for your festival hair look? We recommend this IGK Strobing Glitter Spray that we’re loving for the summer! We love the formula on this particular glitter spray with its super fine glitter that allows you to either have a slight highlighted effect or layer the product for more impact. Try spraying this over braids, on your roots or all throughout your hair for totally different looks with this one product!

Rahua Organic Omega 9 Hair Mask
Winter isn’t the only time your hair needs good moisture to keep it healthy. With us tending to obviously sweat a bit more in the summer, we usually find ourselves washing our hair way more often that we usually would which dries it out. This Rahua Omega-9 Hair Mask is made from 100% natural plant-derived ingredients from the Amazon that almost instantly feeds your hair moisture even with the smallest amount of product. We use this as a hair mask and also add a couple pumps as a booster with our usual conditioner.

Sebastian Shaper Plus Hairspray
If you are going to brave out big curls or require an intricate updo this summer you better be sure you have a good hairspray in our arsenal. This Sebastian hairspray is a classic favourite of everyone from beauty gurus to celebrity hairdressers and everyone in between because it’s pretty much a miracle. This little bit of heaven in the can works great to hold hair against high humidity for 24 hours without an inch of stiffness or sticky residue while still leaving it completely flexible.

Beauty Jobs – Toronto Fashion Week Hair Trends

Thursday, March 28th, 2013

From sleek locks to volumized updo’s, the hair trends at Toronto Fashion Week are definitely ones to be talked about. Backstage, models were styled to compliment each of the designer’s particular vision, giving the perfect finishing touch to the outfit. None of this would be possible without the work by lead hair stylist for Redken, Jorge Joao.

On Night one, Chloe Comme Parris stole the show with their good girl gone bad look. The perfect touch was the hair; adding layers with a messy side braid accent complimenting the boho collection. The textured pixie cut for Pink Tartan is the perfect blend between girly and edgy. For a messy look, apply Redken’s Rough Paste 12 staring under the hair working your way to the roots adding texture to fine hair.

The Pony:
Sig Niegum stepped out of the box with a unique take on the top knot. The leather wrapped, sky-high up-do made a statement on the runway. At Lucian Matis’ off site-show we saw a more wearable version of this look with a straight low pony wrapped at the base with a thick leather band. Use Redken’s Glass 01 Smoothing Serum for a sleek finish.

Any updo is great way of showing off a garment and it seems the designers this season want all the focus to be on the clothing. A bun is a great way to get the hair out of the way while still looking trendy. David Dixon and DUY went for a classic low bun while Stephan Caras opted for a large top knot. To keep your bun in place, add a quick spray of Redken’s Fashion 12 Hairspray before heading out the door.

Toronto Fashion Week may be over but the trends will carry on until next season, especially the bold beauty looks. Cat eyes and bright lips and updos and pixie cuts are looks that you can take from the runway to the streets.
