Beauty Jobs – Holiday Winter Glitter

Thursday, December 28th, 2017

Beauty Nine to Five - Beauty Jobs in Canada

The holiday Season is the perfect excuse to wear glitter from day to night without people look at you like you’re crazy. All the glitterized products currently available can be a tad overwhelming, not to mention it’s hard to decide which part of your look to add some sparkle too. To help you add some sparkle to your beauty regiment this winter, we’ve rounded up our favourite glittery beauty items available right now.

For the Hair
Yes, we started our list with something a little less conventional. Our hair deserves to be the life of the party, and for that, IGK created the most fun hairspray to rock at all your winter parties. The Preparty Hair Strobing Glitter Spray will make your hair sparkle everywhere you go this winter, not to mention it will also come in handy this festival season.

For All Over
Loose glitter has never been more in than now! It’s a versatile product that you can use anywhere, from your eyes, shoulders, chest to your hair! Too Faced has created this limited edition glitter set, perfectly called ‘Tis season to sparkle will have you ready to sparkle everywhere you go.

For the Eyes
Bored with your predictable old black eyeliner? The holidays are the perfect time to try different liner looks. Winged liner always makes a basic makeup look stand out, so why not swap black for a sparkly colourful liner instead? NYX has an incredible lineup of glittery liners that are not only budget-friendly but also available in a wide variety of colours so you can make your winged liner everything but traditional.

For the Lips
We definitely couldn’t forget about the lips! We talked about glittery lipglosses in a previous post, but we didn’t fully explore how glitter lipstick could extend through the holidays. Amplify your lip game this winter by using Ciaté London’s Glitter Flip, which comes in a variety of colours from delicate pink to bold green.

For the Legs
If you’re planning on rocking an LBD this winter, your legs and arms deserve some love. Kopari is a cool, all natural brand that has this incredible coconut body glow that will not only hydrate your skin but also give it a much-needed glow during the dry winter months.

Beauty Nine to Five - beauty jobs in CanadaInspiration Image

There’s something fresh about spring! Is it because it marks the start of change and new beginnings? Or is it because it signals the end of icy sidewalks and heavy-duty parkas? Either way, we look forward to the season and all the skincare, hair and makeup goodies it brings.

As the timeless adage goes: out with the old, in with the new. Remember to throw away beauty products as they reach the end of their shelf lives. By spring cleaning a little early this year, you can make room for these 13 spring beauty launches we’re excited for. Check them out below!

1. Laura Mercier Highlight palette

  1. Stunning Glow Palette

There’s no denying how striking Laura Mercier’s latest highlight palette is. Rainbow reflective packaging aside, the beautiful array of five cream colours has our fingers itching to test this palette out. Personal favourites include the gunmetal silver shade which leaves a lot of room for creative fun.

2. Clinique x Crayola

  1. Lip Colour Nostalgia Overload

The feels! This Clinique X Crayola collaboration is a trip down memory lane. If you’re already a fan of Clinique’s Chubby Stick nourishing lip colours then you’re bound to love these eight juicy shades. The fact that they’re packaged in an old-school Crayola box will have you feeling like your 8-year old self again.

3. MUFE Skin Booster

  1. Instant Skin Plumper

Dehydrated skin can affect even the most diligent of skincare fanatics. Answering our prayers, MUFE is launching a range of Boosters for both face and lips that promise to instantly hydrate and plump skin before makeup application. Ladies and gents with dry skin should definitely keep an eye out for this one.

4. Ole Henriksen Skin Set

  1. If Your Face Needs Balance

Combination-skinned beauties rejoice! Cult-favourite brand Ole Henriksen is launching a skincare line focused solely on balancing that finicky skin type that is both oily and dry. Cleanser, toner and oil-controlling hydrator come together to give your face the ultimate balanced skincare regimen.

5. Charlotte Tilbury Sheet Mask

  1. The Most Luxurious Sheet Mask Ever

Best-known for her star quality makeup tutorials on YouTube, celebrity makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury is adding another item to her skincare line come March 2017. The Instant Magic Facial Dry Sheet Mask is highly anticipated by beauty editors and fans alike and is a definite must-have.

6. Maybelline Dream Cushion

  1. The Dream Cushion

If you’re late on the cushion foundation train, get on now! Maybelline just launched an affordable, full coverage cushion foundation available in eight luminous shades. The Dream Cushion is right on time for spring and let’s you dip your toes into the K-Beauty waters without breaking the bank.

7. Tweezermen

  1. Futuristic Tweezers

Technology, meet tweezers. Tweezerman has raised the bar yet again on top of the line eyebrow grooming products. This nifty tweezer features an LED light that zeroes in on the specific hair you want to remove. The added spotlight makes plucking your brows a less daunting task.

8. Kat Von D

  1. Everlasting Liquid Love

Word is matte lips are on their way out. Too bad we simply can’t ignore Queen Kat’s announcement of 25 new Everlasting Liquid Lipstick shades rolling out this spring. Their trademark stay-all-day formula makes them easy to layer underneath a clear gloss for the perfect pout. On top of that, the swatches make the wait that much harder!

9. OPI Fiji collection

  1. Fiji Vacation

Sunny pops of colour to jewel-toned shades make OPI’s Fiji collection look like a summer getaway in a bottle. With the names “Two Timing the Zone”, “Exotic Birds Do Not Tweet” and “Super Trop-i-cal-i-fiji-istic” it’s hard to pick a favourite.

10. Bite beautyPrismatic Beauty

By now you’ve probably seen holographic eyelids and lips everywhere. Canadian brand Bite Beauty just released six new shades of the Prismatic Pearl Crème Lip Gloss. For a limited time only these stunners will be serving ultra reflective shine backed with full coverage, colour-changing pigments.

  1. Healthy Hair Smoothies

Reminiscent of freshly pressed juice and smoothies – the Matrix Biolage R.A.W. shampoos and conditioners have equally yummy ingredients. Natural-origin ingredients like quinoa, honey and coconut oil, among others, make this hair care collection extremely nourishing for all hair types.

Beauty Jobs – 2016 Wearable Trends

Thursday, January 28th, 2016

Beauty Nine to Five - Beauty Jobs

It may only be January, but the beauty trends for 2016 are well underway.  According to Harpers Bazaar, you can put all the nude lipsticks away, because bright colours and eccentric looks are all the rage for spring.  In this week’s post, I’m going to outline some of the top makeup looks from the spring/summer fashion week shows that we can wear now.

GetFileAttachment GetFileAttachment-1 GetFileAttachment-2

Bright Red Lips

Something that is traditionally associated with the Holiday season, red lips were seen all over the runways.  From Celine to Topshop, Oscar de la Renta to Acne, various textures were all used to represent the same candy apply red shade.  Something like the Urban Decay Sheer Revolution lipstick or the new Gwen Stefani collaboration lippies are perfect.

GetFileAttachment-3 GetFileAttachment-4 GetFileAttachment-5

Colourful Blue Eyes

The DVF show did a total 70’s throw back with the hair and makeup, but other brands like Marc Jacobs, Missoni, and Chanel used various shades of blue to create a more eccentric look. Sephora and Lancome have wearable blue colours to test the waters before committing to the look; pun intended.

GetFileAttachment-8 GetFileAttachment-7

Pale Pink

A colour usually associated with cheeks and lips has migrated up to the eyes.  Because you can opt for warm or cool shades, subtle or bold, this is a universally flattering look.  Mac’s “Girlie”, or “Yogurt” are two colors perfect for achieving this look.  Just wash them across the lids, add a bit of mascara, and you’re good to go.

Faux Freckles

This is a bit of an odd one, but I’ve seen it many times recently.  It involves dotting around the nose and cheek area with a light brown coloured eyeliner, using various intensity to create a more “natural” look.  Something like the Mac “Coffee” and Sephora “Flirting Game” liners are great for achieving a subtle look.

Not a fan of these looks? Elle and Harper’s Bazaar have a more complete list!

1. Urban Decay Sheer Revolution lipstick, $26, available at Sephora

2. Urban Decay UD Gwen Stefani Lipstick, $21, available at Sephora

3. Sephora Collection Colourful Eyeshadow in “Sweet Dreams”, $13

4. Lancome Le Crayon Khôl Hypnôse Waterproof in “10 Bleu Ciel Parisien”, $30

5. Mac “Girlie” eyeshadow, $12

6. Mac “Yogurt” eyeshadow, $12

7. Mac Coffee eye pencil, $19.50

8. Sephora Collection in “Flirting Game-Taupe”, $12

Beauty Jobs – Top Eyeshadow Shades for Fall

Tuesday, October 14th, 2014

beauty-nine-to-five1. Donna Karen

6. Smashbox

There was a huge emphasis on eyes on the Fall 2014 runways. Metallic eyes, jewel toned smokey eyes and very natural looks gleamed on the models smooth complexions.

The metallic eye really stood out this season and I’m seeing it more and more every day. It’s a really fun eyeshadow type to play with and have fun – don’t go to overboard during the day though, it’s a bold look even with minimal application.

2. Nicole Miller

5. make up for ever

The coloured smokey eye is a great beauty trend for fall – it livens up your face and in a very subtle way (if you are using the proper shade) can make your natural eye colour pop! This is a great look for the evening, and with a neutral toned outfit it will stand out even more.

3. jason wu

4. Maybelline

The natural “I woke up like this” dewy beauty trend walked countless runways for the fall, which I absolutely loved. Using neutral eyeshadow shades close to your natural colouring is a wonderful daily look that gives you that extra bit of oomph and embellishment.

Beauty Jobs – Bad Makeup Trends of 2012

Thursday, January 3rd, 2013

With a whole new year ahead of us (Okay, 362 days, but still) our beauty slates are wiped clean. The good, bad and ugly trends of 2012 are in the past and now we have a new slew of makeup mistakes to make. Here we take one last look at a few trends we would like to leave in 2012. Sayonara, stiletto nails!

1. Stiletto Nails
I’m not saying that they aren’t just a little bit pretty to look at. But try this trend for yourself and you’ll relize that this trend is anything but functional. I may be a beauty girl at heart but when it comes to long nails that are impossible to type, button clothing, or do any simple tasks with, I’m out. Let’s leave this trend to Rihanna and Lana Del Rey and vow to stick to the practical and pretty squavol shape.

2. Over-the-top Spikey Lashes
Jean Paul Gaultier and Derek Lam brought it to the runway, but poor Ginnifer Goodwin decided to take a risk and bring it to the red carpet. I can’t say that risk paid off, the spikey lashes were a little bit more tarantula like rather than an ode to 60’s supermodel Twiggy.  This works for the runway, not the real world.

3. Red Eyeshadow
Donna Karan and Marni showed me what I thought would never, ever, be considered a beauty trend. Red eyeshadow. I’m not talking a flattering cranberry shade, I mean fire engine red eyeshadow, and I’m still not convinced. I haven’t quite wrapped my head around why we would want anything red near our eyes. Can we please leave this to Kristen Stewart, Anna Paquin, Nina Dobrev, and any other vampire actresses out there (way too many to be able to name them all!)
