Makeup Jobs – Top BB and CC Creams

Thursday, April 25th, 2013

Your makeup bag may be in the need of a little spring cleaning and what better way to do that then to replace five products with one? BB Creams have been one of the biggest new trends in beauty and now we’ve been introduced to CC creams. But what’s the difference and how do we choose the right one?

The initials “BB” stand for “beauty balm.” This is a multitasking product containing primer, a light foundation, moisturizer and sunscreen in one. “CC” cream stands for “color corrective” and contains a skin brightening primer, light foundation, moisturizer, sunscreen, anti-aging ingredients and, in some cases, collagen boosters.
The BB cream tends to be a bit heavier and better for dry skin, with a focus on prevention and maintenance, while the CC cream is usually a tad lighter and focuses on concealing existing issues such as acne and redness.

BB Cream

Bobbi Brown BB Cream SPF 35
Coverage: Sheer to medium.
About: For dull skin that needs a boost, this BB Cream will give you that soft spring glow while protecting from UVA/UVB rays with an SPF of 35. This anti-aging moisturizer reduces the appearance of dark spots and redness while brightening the skin.

Dr Jart+ Water Fuse Beauty Balm SPF 25
Coverage: Light to medium.
About: Made with 50 percent water, the unique water bead technology hydrates the skin for a dewy fresh look. It’s like a refreshing beverage for your skin! The one-step product covers imperfections while the SPF protects the skin, maintaining its natural moisture. The oil-free balm is great for all skin types.

CC Cream

Clinique Moisture Surge CC Cream
Coverage: Medium
About: This oil-free creamy CC cream creates a natural glow while hydrating and protecting the skin. The color-correcting formula smoothes the skin’s complexion and creates a natural radiance perfect for spring. This product can be worn alone as a foundation base if you prefer a heavier coverage.

Olay CC Cream Total Effects Tone Correcting Moisturizer with Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 15
Coverage: Light
About: Get instant coverage and fight 7 signs of aging. This all-in-one formula will even your skin tone, reduce age spots and wrinkles while the SPF protects for younger looking skin. Available in three shades to match your skin: Fair-to-Light, Light-to-Medium, and Medium-to-Deep

If you have fairly normal skin, BB cream is for you. If you are looking to correct your complexion and get a little extra coverage, you’ll love CC creams. These are definitely a staple item in my spring beauty bag!

Montreal Beauty Jobs – Barely There Makeup

Friday, April 5th, 2013

This season, my motto is “bare is better” when it comes to beauty. The neutral look has been seen all over the runways and is a trend that can take you from day to night.

To achieve sheer beauty you have to go skin deep, and that means finding the perfect moisturizer, primer, and foundation. Now I know what you’re thinking: that’s a lot of product to be wearing in the heat. So skip the 3 step routine and substitute with the perfect BB cream or tinted moisturizer. For great coverage with a matte finish, try Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream SPF 35 ($39, available at Sephora). The multitasking formula moisturizes while controlling your skins natural oils and contains SPF to protect against the suns harsh rays. If you’re looking for a more lightweight product, try Laura Mercier’s Tinted Illumination tinted moisturizer to give your skin a dewy fresh glow. And instead of caking on heavy powder, finish off with a lightweight translucent powder.

Soft neutral shadows are a staple for spring, that being said, so is the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette ($50, available at Sephora). Containing 12 shimmering shades, you can achieve a subtle day look, a smoky night out look and everything in between. After applying your shadows, smudge a soft brown pencil liner only on your upper lash line. Curl your lashes and apply a volumizing mascara, pulling your lashes outward to open up your eyes.

I like to see a neutral eye paired with shades of soft pinks or taupe on the lips. A sheer lipstick or gloss is a perfect compliment to a natural makeup look and is flattering on every skin tone while looking youthful and fresh. Find a tube you love like the Nars Satin Lipstick in Honolulu Honey ($26, available at Sephora) and never leave home without it this spring.

If you’re like me, your nail colour will change according to your outfit. Such a hassle trying to match! So, go nude and you cant go wrong. I’ve been loving the OPI ‘My Vampire is Buff’ polish for that perfect soft colour with a bit of sparkle.

Now that you’ve got all your “bare essentials” you’re ready for spring!

Esthetician Jobs – Spring Break Beauty Essentials

Thursday, March 14th, 2013

There’s no better excuse to take a vacation than spring break. Come March, you’ve just about had it with never-ending dreary weather, post-new year excitement has officially come to a complete halt, the days can’t seem to get longer fast enough, and work/school is probably driving you crazy. A little warm weather getaway couldn’t come at a more perfect time! Before you jet off on your spring break holiday, throw these essential beauty products in your bag to keep you pretty and protected while you’re away from home.

1. Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Sunscreen Spray, $15, available at London Drugs. I never travel without this aerosol sunscreen. It’s extremely lightweight, never sticky, and it’s non-comedogenic and oil-free so I even use it on my face.

2. LA VANILA The Healthy Lip Screen SPF 30, $21, available at Sephora. With shea butter and essential oils of peppermint and vanilla, this SPF lip balm is moisturizing and delicious. It provides physical sun block with titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, so you get chemical-free protection. It’s on the pricy side, but a little goes a long way.

3. CoverGirl LashBlast Waterproof mascara, $10, available at London Drugs. Splashing in the pool and frolicking on the beach are top priority on a spring break vacation but are not really conducive to flawless makeup. Since I don’t always go makeup-free on holiday, I turn to this amazing drug store mascara for crazy lash volume that is also waterproof.

4. Ojon Color Sustain for Color-Treated Hair Travel Kit, $26, available at Sephora. With my colour-treated tresses, I don’t risk further damage with hotel hair products. Luckily, this travel kit has shampoo, conditioner, and rub-out dry cleansing spray specially formulated for delicate colour-treated hair. Now I can kick back and relax knowing my mane is well cared for no matter where I go.

5. Smashbox O-Glow Intuitive Cheek Colour, $26, available at Shopper’s Drug Mart. I like to keep my beauty routine simple on vacation but I just can’t live without blush. This waterproof gel formula withstands heat and humidity. The extra cool factor comes from the personalized colour – after applying, it adjusts to a unique shade specific for your complexion. Magic!

6. Garnier Skin Renew BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector, $19, available at London Drugs. Easy vacation makeup doesn’t include a thick layer of foundation. Instead, try a BB cream that provides light coverage with bonus features like 24-hour hydration and protective vitamin C.

Makeup Jobs – Valentine’s Day Look: Alexa Chung

Thursday, February 14th, 2013

We’d all like to think of Valentine’s day as a wonderful, romantic event that our sweetheart has been planning for weeks, but that’s not always a reality. You don’t always have hours to get ready before the big V-Day date so here’s a look you can pull together in 10 minutes and still manage to look fresh, romantic, and flirty. Read on for the products you’ll need to get Alexa Chung’s effortless look…

1. tarte BB Tinted Treatment 12-Hour Primer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen, $44, available at Sephora

Evening out your skintone shouldn’t take more than one product or more than 1 minute. This BB cream has a built-in moisturizer, sunscreen, primer, and coverage for any imperfections and it’ll make you look dewy and natural.

2. Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm in Woppin Watermelon, $19, available at Sephora

This lipstick is sheer enough that your date won’t mind kissing you but moisturizing enough that you won’t have to keep reapplying it.

3. Conair Infiniti 3/4-inch Professional Tourmaline Ceramic Curling Iron, $32, available at London Drugs

Depending on your hair type and length, curling your whole head could take up to an hour. Who has time for that? With this look, you can pull all your hair back into a low bun, leaving a few face-framing sections. Curl those sections with this ¾” iron for a wispy, romantic look.

4. MAC Fluidline, $19

Finish your look off with some 60’s-style winged eyeliner. MAC Fluidline is a long-lasting formula that won’t budge for the whole night.

Makeup Artist Jobs – Fall Moisturizers

Wednesday, October 17th, 2012

Slathering on the SPF is a no brainer in the summer, but with winter unfortunately right around the corner, it’s time to switch up your sunscreen habits to protect your skin in the cooler temperatures. Since sunscreen is the best anti-aging product out there, this really isn’t something you want to skimp out on. Packing on greasy formulas under makeup definitely is not appealing in the winter – instead opt for a tinted moisturizer or a BB Cream with an SPF of at least 30, like Clinique’s age defense BB Cream.  Origins VitaZING Energy Boosting Moisturizer ($35) is also a great option that will hydrate, energize and protect your skin, though with an SPF of 15 it’s best to pair it with a foundation or powder that has a bit of SPF in the formula to make sure you’re getting the maximum amount of protection.  Make sure to stock up on these essentials to keep your skin pretty and protected all winter long!

Vancouver Beauty Jobs – CC Creams

Monday, September 10th, 2012

BB creams, or formally known as Blemish Balm cream, were initially used by dermatologists on their laser surgery patients, to help soothe, regenerate and heal the skin after treatments. Also providing coverage to hide post-surgery scars and redness, Korean actresses soon discovered this wonder cream and started using it strictly for the beauty benefits. Shortly after, BB Creams were introduced to the mass market, with the craze for this product swiftly spreading from Asia, to Europe and North America, almost every prestigious and mass-marketed brand introduced a version of the famed ‘beauty miracle’.

What is BB cream? We like to think of this product as a combination of tinted moisturizer and face primer. BB creams are lightweight, yet provide amazing coverage, without the heavy feel of a foundation. They have the advantages of both skin care and makeup as they improve the skins’ condition and even out tone while providing coverage for dark spots and other blemishes. With the well-established BB cream in mind, however, our overseas skincare trendsetters have hit us once again with an alphabet abbreviation – introducing, CC cream! Formally known as Colour Control cream, CC cream is said to encompass the same all-in-one skincare and makeup benefits as the amazing BB cream, but with even more coverage and additional skin-nourishing ingredients. Think: foundation meets facial day lotion.

Although this beauty innovation is just beginning to spread across Asian markets, some prestige brands, such as Chanel, iFiona and Rachel K are getting ahead of the curve, launching their own CC cream and it will only be a matter of time until other brands follow suit. In fact, rumor has it that Olay is set to launch their version in October. Which only means one thing…CC cream is coming to a beauty retailer near you, and we can’t wait to try it for ourselves!

Esthetician Jobs – Multi Tasking Products

Wednesday, August 8th, 2012

Beauty products that have multiple purposes can be friendly to your wallet and keep your morning makeup routine minimal and fast. I’m a strong believer that a makeup bag should only contain daily essentials, believe it or not, carrying around 7 lipsticks just really isn’t necessary. Here are a few of our favourite products that will save you time, money and space and will still keep you looking gorgeous.

1. Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream, $39, available at Sephora
I’m all about skin care, I love masks, moisturizers, peels, you name it. I also know that when I’m in a rush, a five step skin care routine just isn’t practical. BB Creams are perfect for days when you don’t have time to prep your skin and then perfect your foundation. This five-in-one formula will moisturize prime, perfect, control oil and protect your skin with an SPF of 35. This BB cream is designed for camera use, so it does give a good amount of coverage without feeling as thick as a liquid foundation.

2. Nars The Multiple , $39, available at Sephora
The Multiple sticks are one of Nars most popular products and we totally understand why. The cream-to-powder formula can be used on your cheeks, eyes and lips and is available in 12 shades including the cult favourite ‘orgasm’. Add some mascara and this product is really all you need for a simple no-fuss beauty look. We like the shade G-Spot for fall, dab it on for perfect berry stained cheeks.

3. Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick, Bronze, $40, available at Sephora
The five bars of gorgeous shimmery colour works great when applied with a light hand as bronzer. Everyone appreciates a bronze glow in the summer and this product mixes pearly shades and bronze hues to add a luminous effect to your skin. Use the five colours to create different bronze eye shadow looks too, the white works great as an inner corner highlight and each colour works as an all over lid shade.

Beauty Jobs – Camping Essentials

Friday, July 13th, 2012

Roughing it in the woods just doesn’t work for this beauty junkie. A camping trip is a true testament to my must-have, can’t live without products and keeping it minimal is key and the basics are really all you need. Sorry ladies, the Chanel Number Five is better left on the vanity. If a little ‘glamping’ is more your style, then we’ve got you covered.

1. Clinique, Age Defense BB Cream, $37, Sephora

BB Cream is an all around summer essential but works great for a camping trip. Clinique’s Age Defense BB Cream offers sun protection with an SPF of 30 and enough coverage to even out skin tone and banish blemishes.

2. LAVANILA, The Healthy Lip Screen, $16, Sephora

Looking pretty might not be totally necessary when camping, but protecting your skin is. We’re a fan of the LAVANILA brand because of the all natural ingredients. This lip balm contains Shea Butter and peppermint and vanilla oils to keep your lips soft and hydrated while being exposed to those hot summer temperatures.

3. Sephora, Express Cleansing Wipes, $9

, Sephora

If pitching a tent in the woods really is your thing, despite no electricity or access to twitter, blogs and humanity then these will save your life. Makeup wipes are a practical necessity for any female camper to wipe away the SPF grime and refresh throughout the day.

4. Urban Decay, Cannonball Ultra Waterproof Mascara, $20

, Sephora

Mascara is always a must. This waterproof Urban Decay mascara is proven to not budge through water and sweat, so you’re lashes will stay voluminous and picture ready throughout any daily camping activities.

5. Lush, No Drought Dry Shampoo, $13, Lush

Dry Shampoo saves your hair and time, we like this lush one because just a few sprinkles into your scalp can revive your second day hair from looking flat to perfectly voluminous and refreshed. The lemon, grapefruit and lime oils in the powder adds a nice fruity fragrance. Perfect for the adventure seekers that have a low maintenance beauty routine.
