Makeup Artist Jobs – IMATS Toronto 2017 Recap: The Trends

Beauty Nine to Five - Beauty Jobs in Canada

I had the chance to attend the IMATS in Toronto this past weekend for my first time, and it was everything I expected and more! Although I was working the event as an exhibitor, I still had a chance to walk around the floor and checkout the trends as well as chat with makeup artists and beauty enthusiasts about their favourite products, looks and more. I also, of course, made time to get a bit of shopping in because well, priorities people. After a full weekend of sculpted eyebrows, symmetrical wing-tips and perfected contours, I’ve brought back my five favourite trends from the 2017 IMATS to share with you!

1. Neon Brights

Even with summer coming to an end, neon colours are still going strong. From bright locks to bold shadows, highlighter yellows and electric blues were big at the IMATS. My personal favourite use of colour? Was from a Makeup Artist from the Vancouver Film School who created a stunning Moroccan inspired look with bold pops of neon on the lids and every so slightly under the brow.

2. Strip Lashes

With the continuously growing popularity of eyelash extensions, you’d almost think that strip lashes were starting to become obsolete. But don’t put down that lash glue, because this weekend was proof that strip lashes are still a favourite of makeup artists and beauty lovers alike. Strip lashes were batting strong on almost everyone’s eyes and bags from brands like Stush Extensions, Esqido and Velour were everywhere!

3. Face Jewels

If bling on your arms, fingers and ears aren’t enough glam for you don’t worry, because face jewels are a perfect way to glam up your makeup look without having to go to heavy with actual product. I saw it all from bejeweled lash lines to accentuated eyeliner wings, but my favorite look of the entire weekend came from M.A.C. Makeup Artist Viktor Peters, a total boss when it comes to minimalistic makeup looks and is also now my makeup inspiration. He kept his makeup super clean and simple and decorated his entire face and neck with the smallest Swarovski Crystals.

4. Rainbow Lips

Lips are no strangers to bright fun colours, but hues like lavender, teal, and tangerine were as popular as ever. Deep dark tones, soft pastels and everything in between were being worn and sold everywhere. Brands like M.A.C Cosmetics and Lime Crime were definitively the leaders of the pack when it came to variety of colours and textures. Neutral tones like brown, grays and black were also huge hits this year which is perfect for the teenage goth in you who used to have to wait for October to snatch those shades!

5. Glitter Highlighter

The highlight game was taken to a whole other this weekend with glitter leading the pack. From highlights with glitter accents to full on glitter highlights the IMATS clearly proved that there is no such thing as too much glitz! My favourite providers of sparkle and fairy dust? G4E Beauty definitively set the tone demonstrating how to rock a highlight wearing their glitter collection.
