What are your beauty kit essentials?
I always carry blush with me, because if I need a quick touch-up, rosy cheeks are the perfect way to look alive, fresh and vibrant. I use MAC’s powder blush and I alternate colours each season. Also, a great hand moisturizer. You don’t want to be shaking hands with someone and it feels like sandpaper. I like to use Cake Beauty’s Lemon Chiffon hand crème.
What is the most important beauty advice you would give to everyone?
I have sensitive, as well as oily, skin. I have found that washing my face once a day before bed with a cleanser, and just using a splash of water in the morning doesn’t rid my skin of its natural oils. The more you deprive your skin of its natural oils, the more it will try and replenish them, which results in an over production of oil. And that is the last thing my skin needs.
What do you love most about your job?
I get to try all the latest beauty products. I feel like a kid in a candy shop. I probably change my nail polish once a day; I see so many at my job and want to try each and every one of them. Other than the product testing, getting to work with and meet creative and artistic people every day brings a lot of life to this job. It is never boring.
What advice would you give to aspiring beauty editors or writers?
The advice I would give aspiring beauty editors and writers is to never give up. I had to write about everything under the sun before I could finally write a beauty piece. Once I had one published article, it was up from there. Also, be a student of beauty, there is so much to learn, the chemistry, the technology… it really is a smart business.
