When I was five years old, I received my first beauty tip from my mum: never go to sleep with your makeup on. Sixteen years later, it is my cardinal rule. No matter how late I walk through the door at night, I always wash my face clean. But this sort of dedication requires its own set of tools. As someone who’s full of life, I have a lot of nights when I am either too exhausted to go through my usual regimen, or cannot be bothered to commute home to my skincare arsenal, so I’ve become something of an expert when it comes to portable cleansers and cleanser alternatives.
Here are my favourites:
1. Olay Clean & Mild Make-Up Remover Cloths, $6, available at Well.ca: These textured sheets are like washcloths you can carry in your purse, except you can toss them out, instead of hanging to dry when you’re done. I usually turn to these before and after workouts, when I’m really looking for that “deep clean” feeling.
2. Ole Henriksen Truth To Go Wipes, $19, available at Sephora: When I feel as though I’m about to pass out from exhaustion, I’ll often reach for pre-moistened wipes like these, even if I’m at home and mere inches away from my usual cleansers. Just one swipe and that mascara is history.
3. Caudalie Cleansing Water, $14, available at Sephora: This gentle, three-in-one product acts as a makeup remover, cleanser and toner. In a perfect world you can just douse a cotton ball with the water and put it on that way, but a wad of toilet paper will also work.
4. Suki To-Go Creamy Foaming Cleanser, $12, available at eBeauty.ca: In case you don’t already know, Suki is known for its all-natural and very luxurious products, and this one is no different. It contains açai oil, an antioxidant, as well as moisturizing coconut oil and shea butter, so your skin is bound to feel soft the next morning. Just because you’re not home, doesn’t mean you can’t pamper yourself!
