Our favourite magazines never fail to deliver the best beauty advice, which is why we’ve asked some of the most notable beauty editors and writers to take a moment and share their secrets with us! What better way to learn about the best in beauty than straight from the source? Read on to find out about the latest trends, today’s ‘it’ products, and a little peek into their coveted nine-to-five lifestyle.
Our first Q&A features Joanie Pietracupa, Associate Editor-in-Chief & Beauty Director of LOULOU magazine:
Current Favourite Beauty Product?
Giorgio Armani’s Maestro Foundation. I’m obsessed by its dry oil-like texture and its perfect, satiny finish.
Current Beauty Trend You Love?
Dark lips. Nothing says ‘femme fatale’ like a deep burgundy mouth!
What are your beauty kit essentials?
For makeup: Brow pencil, black thickening mascara, black liquid liner, pearly beige eye shadow, mate bronzer, peach blush and nude lip stain. For face care: Micellar water, serum, ultra hydrating cream and eye contour gel. For hair: Argan oil, thickening mousse, straightening balm and curling iron. For body: Exfoliant, shower gel and hydrating balm.
What is the most important beauty advice you would give to everyone?
Remember what your mama taught you: Drink lots of water, sleep at least seven hours per night, always put on sunscreen before you step out the door and take off your makeup before you go to bed (no matter how tired you are!). And know that Audrey Hepburn was right: Happy girls are the prettiest girls.
What do you love most about your job?
I get to travel all around the world to discover new and exciting beauty products, and meet famous stars, inspiring makeup artists, talented hair gurus and fellow beauty journalists. Basically, I’m paid to live the good life. I’m still expecting to wake up any minute now.
What advice would you give to aspiring beauty editors or writers?
Write a lot (your writing is your #1 passport to success in this industry), be open to new ideas, become a great team player, be kind and generous to every new person you meet and always, always take notes – you get to learn from the cream of the crop every best trick and tip for looking beautiful 24/7! Also, learn all there is to learn about Facebooking, Tweeting and Instagramming – you literally want to be published EVERYWHERE, not just online or in a magazine.
