If the single-digit weather forecasts (or the calendar) hasn’t tipped you off, summer is officially over. While I’m a true warm weather baby, I’m not too bitter about the change in season as I always relish the chance to bring out my favourite sweaters, jackets and ankle boots. What I’m not crazy about, however, is the effect the changing weather has had on my skin.
Colder weather means a dryer, sometimes flaky complexion, so I’m switching up my skin and body care line-ups: it’s out with the light lotions and in with the thick creams, which are much more effective when it comes to locking in moisture. I’ll choose one with SPF, like Fresh Soy Moisturizing Face Cream SPF 20, for daytime (the days may be shorter, but that doesn’t mean you should skimp on the sun protection) and a heavier product for night – I’ve been using Nivea Soft since middle school and it has yet to disappoint. Also, though we are more covered up these days, it is still crucial to keep our bodies moisturized. (Have you ever had to clean dead skin cells out of a pair of opaque tights? It’s not cute.) A great body scrub keeps the flakes at bay (Lather Bamboo and Lemon Grass Foaming Body Scrub smells amazing), and the Coconut Body Butter from the Body Shop, if applied immediately after towelling off, keeps my legs soft, even if no one can see them through my skinny jeans. (Style Tip: Contrary to what you might think, it’s harder to pull tight pants up moisturized thighs than dry ones, so wait until your moisturizer has sunk in before getting dressed.)
