Hair Stylist Jobs – Pool Protection

Few things are more refreshing than a dip in a cool pool on a hot day, but if you are dyeing your hair, swimming in chlorine-clean water can alter the colour and turn your strands to straw. Here are some tips to keep the pool effects to a minimum:

1. Honey Fig Mixed Chicks Leave-In Conditioner, $26

Protect: Coat your hair with leave-in conditioner before getting into the pool. It will act as a barrier to block out chlorine, since our hair can only hold so much. I like Mixed Chicks Leave-In Conditioner, which is especially awesome for curly hair, but any thick conditioner will do.

2. UltraSwim Chlorine Removal Shampoo, $8, available at Well.ca

Clean: Run from the pool to the showers and wash the chlorine right out of your hair after swimming. UltraSwim Chlorine Removal Shampoo is targeted at frequent swimmers, and promises to gently wash away not only chlorine, but also copper deposits and other oxidized metals found in pool water that turn lighter hair that attractive shade of green. A combination of humectants and moisturizers will keep the straw effect at bay.

3. Ojon’s Damage Reverse Restorative Hair Treatment, $22, available at Sephora

Resurrect: So maybe your strands are shot after too many days spent frolicking in the pool. At this point, weekly deep conditioning treatments may be able to nurse your hair back to health. Try Ojon’s Damage Reverse Restorative Hair Treatment, which has the added benefit of smelling like an exotic holiday.
